Paul WeeksI had the honour of working with pioneering Canadian artist Michael Snow and his colleagues to help realize My Mother's Collection of Photographs, a deeply personal book project featuring over 1,500 family photos.
Published by the Art Gallery of Ontario's Library and Archives, the photos were meticulously sequenced and arranged over several years by Snow based not on genealogy or chronology, but on structure and feeling to create a thought-provoking and wondrous composition.
The book design and typography we developed was inspired by the elegance of Snow's mother's handwriting, the period aesthetics of the historical photos, and his family's French roots.
